Overview
Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles pay an additional weight-based fee on top of the standard tag: $82 a year for the roughly 6,000-lbs-and-under class most passenger EVs fall into, or $118 for heavier trucks and SUVs between 6,000 and 10,000 lbs. Both figures took effect July 1, 2026, replacing the old fee, and now apply equally to full electrics and plug-in hybrids rather than charging EVs more. Every registration also carries a $1.50 insurance verification fee.

Oklahoma registration fees FAQ
How much does it cost to register a car in Oklahoma?
Between $27.50 and $97.50 a year for a standard car or truck, all-in: the age-tiered base fee ($26–$96) plus the $1.50 insurance verification fee that applies to every registration. It's the same everywhere in the state - no county adds anything on top.
Why did my registration fee drop compared to last year?
Oklahoma's fee isn't flat - it steps down at years 5, 9, 13, and 17 as the vehicle ages. A car that just crossed from year 4 to year 5, for example, drops from $96 to $86 automatically at its next renewal.
How much extra do EVs pay to register in Oklahoma?
$82 a year on top of the standard tag fee for EVs and plug-in hybrids weighing 6,000 lbs or less - most passenger cars and small SUVs. Heavier electric trucks (6,000–10,000 lbs) pay $118. Both rates took effect July 1, 2026 and apply the same whether the vehicle is fully electric or a plug-in hybrid.
Do gas-electric hybrids that don't plug in pay the EV fee?
No. The weight-based surcharge only applies to battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. A conventional (non-plug-in) hybrid registers at the same age-tiered fee as any gas vehicle, with no extra charge.
Does Oklahoma require an emissions or safety inspection to register?
No - Oklahoma has no routine safety or emissions inspection program for passenger vehicle registration. The only inspection that comes up is a $4 VIN inspection, and that's limited to vehicles arriving from out of state or without a clear Oklahoma title history.
Is there a separate fee the first time I register a vehicle here?
Yes - first-time Oklahoma titling adds the $11 title fee, a $17 transfer fee if there's a change of owner, and a one-time tire recycling fee (about $2.90 per tire on a standard car). None of those recur at annual renewal; they're first-registration-only.
